LocalQuote SASkip hire quotes

Privacy and POPIA notice.

This is the notice required by section 18 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. It says what we collect, why, who gets it, and how to make us stop.

Who is responsible for your information

LocalQuote SA operates skipquotesa.com and is the responsible party for the personal information described here. Our information officer can be reached at localquote@agentmail.to — that is the address for any request under this notice, including access, correction and deletion.

What we collect, and when

We collect personal information in one place only: the quote request form. Nothing is collected if you simply read the site.

What you type in

  • Your name and phone number — required, because a skip operator quotes by phone.
  • Suburb or town and the closest city — required, so we can route the request to an operator who actually covers you.
  • Waste type and skip size — required, because they determine the disposal route and the price.
  • Email address, timing and notes — optional. Notes are free text, so please do not put anything in there that you would not want an operator to read.
  • Your consent, together with the exact wording you agreed to and the time you agreed to it.

What the request itself carries

  • The page you submitted from, and the job type it related to.
  • Your browser’s user-agent string and referring page.
  • A one-way hash of your IP address. We deliberately do not store the address itself. The hash exists so we can investigate abuse of the form, not to identify you.

Why we process it

For the quote request itself, our justification is your consent under section 11(1)(a) of POPIA. The consent you give is specific and narrow:

I agree that LocalQuote SA may store the details I have entered and pass them to one skip-hire operator covering my area so that operator can contact me about a quote. I understand my details will not be sold on to a list, and that I can ask for them to be deleted at any time.

We also process the technical details above to keep the form working and to stop automated abuse, which we do on the basis of our legitimate interests under section 11(1)(f). If you withhold the required fields we cannot route your request — that is the only consequence of not providing them.

Who receives it

  • One skip-hire operator covering the suburb you gave us, so they can contact you and quote. One request goes to one operator. We do not sell your details onto a list, and we do not send the same request to several competitors.
  • Our infrastructure providers, acting as operators under POPIA, who process on our instruction only: our website host, our database host, and our transactional email provider.
  • Nobody else. No advertising networks, no data brokers, no analytics vendors. This site runs no third-party tracking tags and sets no cookies of its own.

If we cannot find an operator covering your suburb, your request is not passed to anyone. We will tell you rather than hold it indefinitely.

Direct marketing

Section 69 of POPIA makes unsolicited electronic direct marketing opt-in, and the Regulations are explicit that an opt-out does not amount to consent. We do not send marketing messages on the strength of a quote request, and we do not give anyone else the right to. The operator who receives your request may contact you about that request — that is what you consented to. If they market to you beyond it, tell us and tell them.

Processing outside South Africa

Our hosting and email infrastructure may store or process your information on servers outside South Africa. Where that happens we rely on section 72 of POPIA: the recipient is bound by contractual terms that uphold principles of protection substantially similar to POPIA, and processes only on our instruction. Your consent to the request covers this transfer.

How long we keep it

  • Quote requests: kept while the request is live and for up to 24 months afterwards, so we can answer a query about it, resolve a dispute about who was sent what, and demonstrate that consent was given.
  • Consent records: kept for as long as the underlying request is kept. POPIA compliance depends on being able to show what was agreed and when.
  • Abuse records (hashed IP, user-agent): kept up to 12 months.

Ask us to delete earlier and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy;
  • have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected;
  • have information deleted where it is no longer needed, was collected unlawfully, or where you withdraw consent;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, which stops any further processing;
  • object to processing we base on legitimate interests;
  • tell us not to pass your details to an operator, even after you have submitted a request, provided you reach us before it is sent;
  • complain to the Information Regulator.

Email localquote@agentmail.to with your reference number and we will act on it. Withdrawing consent does not undo processing that already lawfully happened — if an operator has already received your request, ask them to delete it too.

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa), the supervisory authority for POPIA. You do not need our permission to do so.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and quote requests are transmitted encrypted. Access to stored requests is limited to the people who need it to route and support them. We keep what we need and no more — which is why we hash IP addresses instead of storing them and do not ask for an ID number, an address or a payment detail anywhere on this site.

No system is perfect. If we discover a compromise of your personal information, POPIA requires us to notify you and the Information Regulator, and we will.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, and loads no advertising or social tracking scripts. There is nothing here to consent to, which is deliberate.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle personal information — a new recipient category, a different retention period — we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to the purpose of processing would require fresh consent, not a quiet edit.

One request, one local operator. No price invented here.
